October 2013

WHEN THE CLOCKS GO BACK!

October 2013 and what a busy month:-

Going back to my DJ days and now have a show on Biggles FM every Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday morning. Featuring artistes on separate days and even an album of the week. I also have a guest desert island disc spot so if you would like to join me one Thursday morning feel free to get in touch and bring an hour's worth of your favourite tunes with you. You can also listen online anyway at: http://www.bigglesfm.com/
Big thanks goes out to Alan Wilding to be brave enough to let me loose on the local airwaves. It's been nearly 25 years since my hospital and local radio days. It's a great bunch at the station and with no set playlist well, you never know what you may hear. All artistes please take this opportunity to promote yourselves. We can record the show and put it out on your own "soundcloud" so please do get in touch.

Untouchable - Day 2

So after last month, Gayle's Iphone sketch idea is now starting to be developed. Have a listen to the new instrumental demo sketch here: Untouchable - 1st Instrumental demo. The style of this song is going to be kind of electronic / acoustic style. I would like to combine some Kraftwerk with The Lightening Seeds but this is still at the very beginning of the process. There is now a new verse section which I haven't even put my tune on. I wanted to get Gayle's ideas before we start to put the whole combination of ideas together. Stewart is so good at taking the best ideas from both of us and fine tuning them. He's also very good at telling us which version 'sucks' without upsetting anybody. So we are all in the studio on 11th November to do some more work on the track.

And a month for gigs:-

Tony Hadley with orchestra conducted by Anne Dudley

Great gig at the Birmingham Symphony Hall with Tony Hadley, his band and an orchestra conducted by Anne Dudley. The arrangements on some of these songs were fantastic, including a load of Spandau Ballet hits. Do have a listen to his version of "Bridge Over Troubled Water" which is perfectly suited for Tony's voice and "Through the Barricades" never sounded better. I often get to see Tony live and have had the privilege of backing him with my own band. Vice Versa with Tony Hadley

Alison Moyet

Next to the Cambridge Corn Exchange and the amazing Alison Moyet performing her "The Minutes" tour. For me, being a big electro synth fan this was just heaven. Visually set up it was like going to a Kraftwerk concert with Allison's incredible soulful voice at the front. "The Minutes" is my album of the year and was also good to hear the back catologue completely reworked and sounding current.

Seth Lakeman

And onto Bedford Corn Exchange to see Seth Lakeman and his band. If you haven't heard any of his material he really is worth checking out and has a new album out next February.

Peter Gabriel

Finally got to see Peter Gabriel live with the full band. The Back to Front concert at the O2 was just spectacular and he performed the whole of the "So" album in it's entirety. I last saw him with the New Blood orchestra about two years ago so it was good to see the original band back together for this tour. If you haven't seen Peter before get to see this tour, the show is in three parts; Part 1 Acoustic versions including an amazing new version of "Shock The Monkey" Live Version. Part 2 is the dark electric side of his catologue and Part 3 is the entire "So" album from start to finish. Visually breathtaking!

Back to the 80s

Another busy month for Back to the 80s. For all of our dates stay in touch on the facebook page. At this point of writing my thoughts are with Kevin our lead singer who is suffering a chronic eye infection. Get well soon mate and hope to get the band back out on the road. Back to the 80s

Next month I will be travelling to Moscow and Singapore so what to pack? Decisions decisions
